Crawford Door Operator

I saw this old garage door opener in a ranch in Oak Park, Michigan that was built in the mid-60s.  The house had an attached garage but no door directly to the house which I found odd.  I had never seen a garage door opener this old or unique so I had to take a few pictures of it.  I’m glad I did because on my follow-up visit this unit had been replaced.

Crawford Door Operator Model CR-87, CR-88

Serial #3992

Ecorse, MI

I tried to do some research on Crawford but I wasn’t able to turn up much information and I couldn’t find any pictures of similar units.  If anyone can offer some more details on this company I’d love to hear about it.

American Incinerator Corporation

“Found this in a 1950’s Cape Cod in Grosse Point, MI.  Nameplate is interesting.  It reads:

Buy American

Instructions

All refuse must be wrapped in small, tight packages.

Do not deposit loose dust, sweepings, meal, flour or any other explosives.

Model R-32 Serial 2 (I think there were more characters the camera didn’t pick up)

American Incinerator Corporation

Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.”

This was in a basement next to a fireplace which explains the gas lines in front of it.  I like the placement and presentation.

The American Boiler and Foundry Company

This old coal-fired boiler was in the basement of an old farmhouse.  The house dates back to around 1920 so that’s my best guess as far as a production date goes.  This unit is no longer in use (upgraded to a high efficiency boiler) however it remains in place.  I’m sure this is due to the weight of the unit.

Incinerette

Incinerette

I discovered this gem in the basement of a house built in 1937. It’s definitely something you don’t see everyday. It’s an Incinerette brand incinerator. I wish I had taken the time to get a better shot of the information plate attached to it. It does say that it was made in Detroit, MI. Apparently in 1937 burning your trash was the cool thing to do. How the times have changed…
